Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Tasting the 2018 Allende Blanco next to the 2019, one could see the differences in vintage, as the wines were produced in exactly the same way—a blend of Viura with some 5% Malvasía Riojana (Alarije) that fermented in new French barriques where it matured with the lees and bâtonnage twice per week and a further seven months without lees after racking. This is a full 1% lower in alcohol, and it comes through as sharper and fresher with 13% alcohol and very good freshness with a pH of 3.15. It has a reductive personality with some flinty notes and hints of gunpowder that I like very much. It’s a bit austere and closed; it’s never going to be an exuberant wine but should develop more nuances in bottle. 36,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2020.

Description
Allende Blanco is a white wine from the D.O.Ca. Rioja made at Finca Allende, which is located in Briones in La Rioja Alta. This wine has been made mainly with Viura and a small amount of Malvasia from vineyards with an average age of 55 years, owned by the winery.
With this wine, the manager Miguel Ángel de Gregorio has demonstrated that he is capable of making excellent white wines at his Briones estate, undoubtedly one of the best winemakers in Spain!
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and selected in the winery. Fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 20 °C for 28 days with indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts 14 months in French oak Bordeaux barrels, the first seven months on the lees, with battonage twice a week with subsequent racking and another seven months of aging without lees.
Taste
Allende Blanco stands out for its great volume and fruity aromatic intensity, light toasted notes and a light and persistent mouthfeel.
A white wine of pleasant surprises
Allende Blanco is a white wine like few others, with the character of the great classic Rioja wines and with a great potential for aging in bottle.
In the gastronomic field it is the ideal accompaniment to dishes such as cod, raw seafood, Iberian ham, cooked seafood, oysters, grilled seafood or rice dishes.
Do you dare to try this white wine? You will not be disappointed!
