Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2019 Valdeginés comes from an east-facing plot of five hectares opposite La Poza de Ballesteros. The plot was planted 35 to 40 years ago at 600 meters in altitude in the village of Laguardia, and it gets the morning sun. 2019 is a fresh and fruit-driven vintage. Despite the warmth of the year and the lack of water, it has ripe fruit. And it has 14.65% alcohol and mellow acidity, but the palate is not heavy; it’s quite fluid. It’s harmonious and with very fine and round tannins. A gentle and elegant Valdeginés with lots of licorice, which seems to be the character of the year. The wines are quite approachable and ready in general, but this overdelivers. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021.

Description
Artadi Valdeginés is a red wine produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa, Spain.
It is a single varietal wine, made from Tempranillo grapes coming from a 7-hectare vineyard located in the municipality of Laguardia.
This vineyard is located at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, planted between 1989 and 1992, on clay-limestone soils that are not very compact.
It is the perfect wine to accompany white meats and grilled lamb.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, selected in the vineyard and transported to the winery in 15 kg crates.
Once in the winery, cold maceration is carried out for 24-48 hours before fermenting with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats for 10-12 days, with daily treading and a little pumping over.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, and ageing takes place in new French oak barrels for 14 months.
Taste
It is smooth, fresh, spontaneously youthful and well delineated. It may show subdued notes in its early stages, but the strength of its assembled tannins can be felt as the years go by.
A structured, smooth and very fresh wine.
Artadi Valdeginés is a wine made from the Tempranillo grape variety and is an excellent alternative to distinguish the different original nuances of the wines of La Rioja.
It has a pleasant fruit concentration accompanied by balsamic notes.
And you, have you tried it yet? Let us know what you think of it!
