Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The white blend 2020 John Stone was produced with grapes from a plot called Piedra Juan, from which they only used the Verijadiego Blanco and Listán Blanco. The vines were planted over 60 years ago on sandy soils in the higher part of Frontera. This is ripe and powerful at 14% alcohol, with structure and grip, showcasing the powerful style from El Hierro with balance between volume and acidity (including an impossible pH of 2.75!). The palate leaves a touch of citrus peel that is dry, refreshing and surprising. This is wild and sharp, pungent and with great persistence. 1,000 bottles were filled in June 2021 after maturing in 228- and 300-liter barrels.
