Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Last time I tasted the 2012, and this time I got the 2011 Massuria, because proprietor José Mas thought the wine needed more time. It is a classical (Bordeaux school) old vine Mencía from their own vineyards matured in a combination of French barriques (20% new) and concrete vats. It was indeed quite reduced, and a little difficult to assess with some difficult aromas that reminded of some garlic intermixed with more classical aromas showing some rusticity, brick dust and something earthy. The palate is only medium-bodied, it has nice finesse and there are delicate flavors of flowers that were not accessible through the nose. Although I have mixed feelings about the wine, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. 15,000 bottles.
