The one white here, the 2019 Godello was produced with grapes from the Bierzo zone, also in Castilla y León, but far away from their reds. They planted a massal selection in different vineyards in the village of Villafranca del Bierzo at 700 meters in altitude on very poor sandy soils with decomposed slate. It fermented in 500-liter oak barrels, where the wine matured with the lees for nine months. The wine has 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.2. It’s the most approachable and fruit-driven of the years they have produced. It’s quite round, with white and yellow fruit, and didn’t go through malolactic fermentation. The oak is neatly folded into the fruit, and it’s tender and polished, quite easy to understand. 8,713 bottles were filled in July 2020.

Description
Mauro Godello is a barrel-fermented white wine made from 100% Godello by Bodegas Mauro under the VT Castilla-León appellation.
The grapes come from vineyards located in Villafranca del Bierzo at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level on very poor sandy soils, with decomposed slate and alluvial pebbles.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested by hand, refrigerated and selected. After a meticulous selection in the winery, the grapes are crushed and then macerated with the skins at 8 °C for 12 hours in order to enhance the aromatic potential. After a brief static racking, alcoholic fermentation takes place in 500 litre oak barrels of first and second year.
After maceration and fermentation, this red wine is aged for 10 months on its fine lees in 500-litre French oak barrels.

Mauro is a red wine where the fruity aromas stand out. In the mouth it is an elegant and full wine that is round, fresh and well-defined with a saline touch and a long finish. An excellent white wine that stands out for its acidity and its marked minerality.
