Description
Mengoba Godello Sobre Lías, is a white wine made from 100% Godello grapes by Bodegas and vineyards Mengoba in D.O. Bierzo (Castilla y León, Spain).
The grapes come from small Godello plots with an average age of approximately 20 years located in Carracedo, Valtuille and Villafranca del Bierzo.
Due to the location of the vineyards, the soil type is very varied, clay-limestone in Valtuille and Villafranca, stony in Carradedo and slate in Espanillo.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15 kg crates. When the selected grapes arrive at the winery, they go through the pneumatic press. The must ferments at a low temperature and the fine lees are selected for ageing. The wine is aged for 10 months with weekly ‘bâtonnage’ in a 4,000-litre oval foudre. After a light clarification and filtering, the wine is bottled.
Taste
It is a wine with fruity, herbal aromas and spicy notes. On the palate it has volume and length, moderate acidity, a serious and mineral palate with a dry finish.
