Winemaking
Fermented with indigenous yeasts in 1,000-litre foudres and 500-litre open French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 12 months in used 600-litre Austrian barrels.
Description
Tartalo is a crianza red wine made with 87% Tempranillo, 10% Viura and 3% Graciano by Oxer Bastegieta under the denomination of La Rioja.
Its name comes from a Cyclops of Basque mythology, from the ‘old world’, a spiritual, dreamlike world, with which its creator wants to evoke that small spiritual world lost in the present day.
The grapes come from a 0.7ha vineyard planted in 1920 in the Barranco de San Julián, at an altitude of 600 m above sea level in very poor calcareous soils in Elvillar in La Rioja Alavesa.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-selected from the best and oldest vines on the estate. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in 1,000-litre French oak vats and in used 500-litre open French oak barrels.
Malolactic fermentation and ageing takes place in Austrian barrels where it ages for 12 months.
Taste
Tartalo is an aged red wine with an expression of fruity aromas and spicy notes with a mineral background. In the mouth it has perfect acidity and fluid tannins that give it exceptional elegance. It is a wine with a long finish and a great ageing capacity.
A unique, powerful and structured wine.
Tartalo is a wine made with minimal intervention, a true Rioja, a wine to enjoy!
Oxer Bastegieta is a first class producer based in Rioja Alavesa. He is a very talented winemaker who interprets Rioja in such a way that anyone with a love of good wine will fall in love with his original creations.
In the gastronomic field, it is a wine especially recommended for anniversary dinners and as an accompaniment to red meats, cheese, pork and game.
And you, have you already tried this magnificent wine? Tell us what you think!
